Biography - Jon Dirks
Jon exhibited a love for art at an early age, drawing on practically any surface he could find. He began painting at the age of nine, and at age 15 he began painting in oils and has never looked back.
After years of traveling to art shows, Jon started a fine art gallery and custom picture framing shop in Castle Rock, Colorado in 1997. The Art Collector was voted best art gallery in Castle Rock in 2001 and 2003. In 2009 he moved into the Art on the Street Gallery in Downtown Castle Rock.
Jon enjoys depicting the beauty of God’s creation which he sees all around him, especially in the mountains. His love for the Colorado landscape is never more evident than when painting on location, allowing him to chronicle the diverse terrain and quickly changing weather first-hand.
Of special interest to Jon is the history of Colorado and the West and he enjoys depicting that history in very detailed still life paintings. The trompe l’oeil style he employs gives an incredible level of realism to those pieces.
Jon has taught art lessons to children, youth and adults, gaining a great of amount of enjoyment from seeing young (and older) artists blossom. Teaching oil painting classes is a special love of Jon’s and he thrives on assisting others in nurturing a love for producing art.
Jon has participated in more than 100 shows winning a number of awards, including Best of Show, and has produced more than a thousand works of art. His work appears in collections across the United States as well as in Europe. His paintings graced the cover of the local phone book in 2005 and 2007.
As one of the long-time members of the Greater Castle Rock Arts Guild he continues to work to promote art in the Castle Rock, Colorado area.
